# Deal Pipeline — How-Tos & Workflows

## Add a deal

1. Go to **Deal Pipeline**.
2. Click **Add Deal** (or the equivalent action on the board).
3. Enter the company name, sector, stage, and assigned GP (chosen from
your firm's team members). Optionally add the geography, who referred
the deal, a description, and the deal size: a single amount in **Min**,
or a range in **Min** and **Max**.
4. Click **Add Deal**. The deal appears as a card in its starting stage's
   column.

## Edit a deal

Needs **Create and edit deals** (Admin, Partner, or Analyst).

1. Open the deal.
2. Click **Edit**, change any field, and click **Save**.

Editing a deal doesn't reset its days in stage. Only moving it to a
different stage does.

## Move a deal between stages

Drag a deal's card from one column to another on the board. The deal's
stage updates immediately — there's no confirmation step, and a deal can
be moved to any stage from any other stage.

## Log activity on a deal

1. Open the deal from the board.
2. In the **Activity** section, add a new entry and choose its type: Note,
   Call, Meeting, or Email.
3. Enter your notes and save. The entry appears in the deal's timeline with
   a timestamp.

> **Example: one deal from first call to term sheet.** An analyst adds
> Lumen Health in **Sourced** with a $10–15M deal size and assigns the
> partner covering healthcare. After the intro call they log a **Call**:
> "Founder-led, $6M ARR, raising a Series B in Q1." They drag the card to
> **Screening**. When the partner decides to go deeper, the card moves to
> **Diligence** and the team opens a diligence workspace for it. After IC,
> it moves to **Term Sheet**, and the timeline now holds every call, email,
> and stage change, which is what a new team member reads to catch up.

## Link a contact to a deal

1. Open the deal.
2. In the **Contacts** section, either link an existing contact from your
firm's directory or create a new one and link it in the same step.

## Generate a screening note

Needs **Run Cairn Intelligence** and **Create and edit deals** (Admin,
Partner, or Analyst). Everyone can read screening notes.

1. Open the deal.
2. In **Screening note**, click **Generate**. Cairn Intelligence reads the
deal's company, sector, geography, size, stage, referral, and
description, plus its activity log, and returns a thesis summary, strengths, risks, and a
   recommendation.
3. Click **Regenerate** after logging more activity to get an updated
read. Earlier versions are kept; switch between them with **Version**.
4. To remove a version, click the bin icon under it.

The note only knows what's recorded on the deal, so a good description and
a logged activity history make it better. It's a starting point for discussion, not a
decision.

> **Example: a first opinion before the Monday meeting.** An analyst has
> logged two calls on Lumen Health: the founder described $6M ARR and a
> three-year contract with a regional hospital network, and mentioned that
> one customer is 40% of revenue. Generating a screening note gives a
> thesis summary, lists the contract and growth as strengths and the
> customer concentration as a risk, and recommends proceeding to diligence
> on condition of seeing the renewal terms. The partner reads it in two
> minutes and decides to open a diligence workspace.

## Delete a deal

1. Open the deal.
2. Click **Delete** and confirm.

Deleting a deal also removes its logged activity and contact links. This
can't be undone.
